the natural way to explore wilderness
Stay at a comfortable safari lodge or camp, and take walks as an alternative to a game drive. This style of walking safari offers the full comforts of the lodge experience and is suited to those who want a mix of walks and drives during their safari. A game viewing vehicle is used to transport guests to the walk location, and walks are usually easy, lasting 2-3 hours and are tuned to the ability and interests of the guests.
Many lodges in the reserves of East and Southern Africa have staff trained to guide trails, and the walks are almost always included in the overnight price. Some lodges offer fly-camping experiences, which allow guests to venture out on foot to sleep at a minimal pop-up camp for a night or two, and these are included in the Fly-camping category.
See page 10 of Walking Safaris of Africa for more infomation about this style of walking safari.
