Primitive Trail in Hluhluwe-iMfolozi
Sleep out under the stars in Kwa-Zulu Natal’s greatest wilderness.
The Natural Way To Explore Wilderness
After the Kruger area, KwaZulu-Natal has South Africa’s best range of walking options. Walks are available in private and community-owned reserves, and those operated by the state agency Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife.
The country’s very first Wilderness Trails were started in Hluhluwe-iMfolozi Park and are still operated in the same style by Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife and the Wilderness Leadership School. Ezemvelo offer a choice of trail styles including sleep-out Primitive Trails. At the other extreme, the park has a comfortable private lodge with guided walks.
Primitive backpacking trails are also offered in private reserves in the north of the province.
