The vast Palmwag Concession in Damaraland has a harsh landscape that is yet rich in nature. Set in a wide valley in the north west, Wilderness Safari Desert Rhino Camp feels very remote. A very comfortable base for walking, it has eight Meru-style tents and a main area that overlooking a sweeping plain dotted with Namibia’s national plant, the welwitschia. Guided nature walks are encouraged as a way to really appreciate the desert ecology, while the highlight of a stay here is the chance to track rhino on foot.
The population of desert-adapted rhino in Damaraland is thriving, and guests can follow Save the Rhino monitors by vehicle and foot.
Alternatively, to the south, Wilderness Damaraland Camp is another excellent base for exploring by vehicle and foot. Located in the Huab River Valley, it has dramatic views of mountains fading into the dust haze.
