Victoria Falls & Walking Safari Tour of Zimbabwe

This 12-night itinerary combines three superb Zimbabwean walking safari destinations -  the national parks of Hwange, Matusadona and Mana Pools - and the unmissable magnificence of Mosi-oa-Tunya/Victoria Falls. It runs in the walking season from May to November, when conditions are dry. 

To maximise time in the bush, transfers are done by air to airstrips close to the park lodges. At each destination, the venue has been selected for its focus on walking activities. These walks follow game trails and are not too demanding, allowing plenty of time to stop to investigate interesting flora and fauna, and admire the wilderness landscapes. There's also plenty of time for afternoon game drives, to get up close to bigger animals.

The itinerary begins with a leisurely 3-night stay in Victoria Falls. There is much more to enjoy here than just the falls, with walks in Zambezi National Park, boat cruises, helicopter trips, white water rafting and other adventure sports. The peaceful town is a great place to pick up Zimbabwean crafts and sample local food.

From Victoria Falls, fly to Hwange National Park for a further three nights of walks and game drives in the scenic northern area of the park. Accommodation is at the seasonal Hwange Bush Camp, a walks specialist. This low-impact rustic camp has all the comforts, including excellent food.

Then, transfer by air direct to the shores of Lake Kariba and the marvellous wilderness of Matusadona National Park. Changa Safari Camp is the luxury base here and as well as walks, this is a place to enjoy boat trips and fishing on the lake.

The next destination is Mana Pools, with a transfer by air to Mana Main airstrip. Mana is famous for its walking amidst towering trees on the Zambezi floodplain. There is a choice of accommodation here - John's Camp or Mana River Camp, both offering excellent guiding on foot. 

The journey ends with a flight from Mana Pools to Harare for onward travel. This itinerary can be modified or extended to include other walk destinations, such as Chiziarira and Matopos. The minimum age is 16, and maximum group size is 8.

Activities in Victoria Falls. 

Day 4

Flight transfer to Giraffe Springs airstrip and road transfer by game viewing vehicle to Hwange Bush Camp in Hwange National Park.

Days 5-6

From Hwange Bush Camp, daily morning and afternoon excursions by game viewing vehicle and on foot.

Day 7

Air transfer Changa Safari Camp in Matusadona National Park.

Day 8-9

From Changa Safari Camp, daily morning and afternoon excursions by game viewing vehicle, boat and on foot.

Day 9

Air transfer to John's Camp in Mana Pools.

Days 10-12

From John's Camp, daily morning and afternoon excursions by game viewing vehicle and on foot.

Day 13

Air transfer Mana Pools to Harare.
