The Tanda Tula field camp is a luxury camp erected for the walking season in a remote corner of Klaserie Game Reserve. It is a sister to the Tanda Tula Safari Camp in Timbavati, which has a large exclusive game-viewing area bordering the Kruger National Park. The luxurious field camp is exclusive-use and established for each group that books it, with all traces removed afterwards.
Tanda Tula Field Camp is set near the eastern boundary of Klaserie, where a series of drainage lines run northwards to join the Olifants River. Although usually dry, they support extensive riparian woodlands that are a pleasure to explore. For variety, walks also meander into the watershed bushveld where elephant, buffalo and rhino feed. Klaserie is well situated for migrating game such as zebra and wildebeest, which move west in summer in search of grazing. It is also prime lion territory, and African wild dogs and cheetah are sometimes spotted.
Designed for walking safaris, the camp is offered in the drier months from the start of April to the end of September and has a minimum stay requirement of three nights. It’s one of the more exclusive and expensive walking safaris in South Africa but guests can expect every comfort, fine cuisine and excellent guides. The camp sleeps up to 8, and is priced based on a minimum of 4 guests.
The daily plan is tailored to guests’ wishes and special interests.
After the morning walk, guests return to a hot shower and brunch. The middle of the day is spent relaxing at camp, spotting birds and camp visitors. Wildlife moves freely through the unfenced camp, making it important to follow the guidance of staff when moving around, especially after dark. Afternoon tea is followed by a shorter walk, sundowners in the veld, and a short game drive which provides a chance to look for evening prowlers such as hyena, porcupine and leopard.
