Nyerere National Park (formerly known as Selous) is Africa's largest national park, protecting some 55,000 km² of prime wilderness. Little visited compared to other parks of East Africa, it is ideal for a genuine remote adventure on foot. Listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site for its biodiversity, the park has healthy numbers of the full range of East African game animals and their predators, and is a birding hotspot with over 400 recorded species.
Located overlooking the Rufiji River, Selous Impala is a comfortable 6-tent camp, and an ideal venue to combine safari styles. It's in an area with extensive wetlands and it's possible to drive, walk and take a boat on the same morning, maximising the wildlife spotting opportunities.
Camp guests can avail of walks year round, and for more intensive walks, fly-camping is offered in the dryer months from June to November. This is the time when walks are safest as vegetation is sparse, and wildlife is drawn to the water sources. The Fly Camp comforts are equal to those at the main camp, with large walk-in tents.
The minimum age for walks is 16, and maximum walking group size is 6.
