It's the way to explore wilderness with the lightest of touches, carrying just what is essential. WIthout a tent, it means taking your turn to keep watch at night, a time to decipher the nocturnal soundscape of Africa.

These self-sufficient Primitive Trails run for 3 to 6 nights duration, depending on the option chosen. Groups set their own pace and explore according to their interests and capabilities. Due to the rocky rugged terrain, participants require a reasonable level of fitness. There are no demarcated campsites or routes. Each night is spent under the stars (no tents) at a pristine location with participants sharing the responsibility of 'watch duty'.

Makuya Nature Reserve is a remote community owned reserve in the north of Limpopo Province, sharing an unfenced boundary with Kruger National Park. Read more about the Primitive Trail experience in Makuya Nature Reserve.

The price is based on three nights, but the trail can be extended up to six nights.

The trail departure point is at Singo Safari Lodge at 13:00, and the Trail will conclude back at the departure point by 11:00 on the last day. Vehicles remain at Singo for the duration of the Trail.

Accommodation is available at Singo Safari Lodge on either end of the Trail.

Walks explore the perennial Luvuvhu river and tributaries, with a different camping spot selected each night.
