The 35,000 ha Onguma Private Nature Reserve lies to the east of Etosha National Park. Set in a prime spot with larger trees for shading and in close proximity to the natural game paths animals follow to get to water, Onguma Trails Camp offers two - or three-night trails during the winter months, with guests spending as much time as they wish on foot.

The camp comprises four en-suite glamping bell tents, accommodating a maximum of eight guests. Each tent features extra-length king or twin beds, luxurious bedding, and a private en-suite outdoor bathroom with a hot bucket shower and eco-friendly compost toilet. Guests can unwind in front of their tents or soak in the wilderness from their private woodfired hot tubs. A large communal tent provides shade for the dining area and for relaxing during the day.

From the camp location it’s likely to spot antelope, elephant and perhaps the elusive black rhino. A game-viewing vehicle at camp allows for a variation in the location of walks that explore the mixed landscape of arid plains, woodlands, riverbeds and shrubby thornveld. If there are more than six guests, a backup guide assists the lead guide. During the stay, the reserve’s researchers and conservationists come to camp to give talks.

The Trails Camp is offered on set departure dates every five days from April to September.  It can be booked for two or three nights, or be combined with a stay at one of the six properties on the reserves, all of which offer guided walks and game drives.

The minimum age is 16 and there is no single supplement. Guests are advised to bring a 35-liter day backpack.

Self-drive guests can leave their vehicles at any of the fixed camps or at a secured parking zone close to the main entrance of Onguma Private Nature Reserve.
