The Manukuza Backpack Trail explores the meandering Letaba and Klein Letaba Rivers. These great river systems form the unfenced boundary with the Kruger National Park resulting in the natural unrestricted movement of game. The trailists will be absorbed into an extremely remote and exclusive piece of Big 5 land. This location isolates participants from the outside world and allows you to become totally immersed in an authentic bushveld environment where the ‘hustle and bustle’ of city life is forgotten.
Manukuza Wilderness Backpack trails are a self-sustained adventure guided by two trails guides. Guests are responsible for all required gear. Nights are spent either in guests' own tents or under the stars "Primitive Trail" style.
The ideal walking season is April to September, and minimum age of 16 years old. Trailists need to be fit and in good health.
Guests meet at Manukuza Safari Camp in Mthimkhulu Game Reserve. Allow about six hours to drive there via Polokwane from Gauteng. The nearest shopping is in Phalaborwa, about one hour from the gate.
Cooking is done on gas stoves and on Primitive Trails participants are expected to take turns on night duty around a small fire.
