The Manukuza Letaba Backpack Trail explores the meandering Letaba and Klein Letaba Rivers. These great river systems form the unfenced boundary with the Kruger National Park resulting in the natural unrestricted movement of game. The trailists will be absorbed into an extremely remote and exclusive piece of Big 5 land. This location isolates us from the outside world and allows you to become totally immersed in an authentic bushveld environment where the ‘hustle and bustle’ of city life is forgotten.
Manukuza Wilderness Backpack trails are a self-sustained adventure guided by two trails guides. Guests are responsible for all required gear. Nights are spent under the stars at a location chosen by your guides.
The ideal walking season is April to September, and minimum age of 16 years old. Trailists need to be fit and in good health.
A slackpacking option is also available, and with all the camping kit and morning and evening meals dropped by vehicle. This makes it possible to walk with just a day pack with water and lunch.
Guests meet at Manukuaza Safari Camp in Mthimkhulu Game Reserve. Allow about six hours to drive there via Polokwane from Gauteng. The nearest shopping is in Phalaborwa, about one hour from the gate.
Cooking is done on gas stoves and participants are expected to take turns on night duty around a small fire.
