One of most interesting aspects of taking part in a walking safari is learning how to recognise signs of wildlife in the area and finding them. This age old skill is a vital part of a walking guide's repertoire, and guests can enjoy learning some tracking (identifying prints and other signs) and trailing (following fresh tracks to find their owner).

There are two seasonal Kruger Untamed tented camps set in their own sizeable 15,000 ha concession areas: Tshokwane River Camp has 30 tents alongside the ephemeral Ripane River and to the north, some 40 km away in an area known for its lion population, lies Satara Plains Camp. Their season from May to September coincides with the prime time for walking safaris. A highlight for those keen on tracking is the involvement of Alex van den Heever and Renias Mhlongo. Both are world-acclaimed tracking specialists and form part of the leadership team for the concessions. The guides at both camps are expert trackers, and mornings are devoted to exploring on foot.

Afternoon walks are also a possibility, or guests can choose to go on a game drive and get close to Kruger's big animals.

The camps are located in the south central sector part of the Kruger National Park and can be accessed by self-drive or by scheduled air connections to Skukuza Airport. It takes about one hour by game drive to Tshokwane River Camp and about two hours to Satara Plains Camp.
