Walks from Luxury Lodges in the Serengeti

Famed for its vast migratory herds of wildebeest, the Serengeti ecosystem is one of the world's most vital wilderness areas. Unusually for National Parks in East Africa, guided walks are allowed in Serengeti National park and Elewana Collection's Serengeti Pioneer Camp and Serengeti Migration Camp are both excellent bases for walking safaris.

Pioneer Camp is sited on a rocky outcrop in the central Southern Serengeti overlooking the Moru Kopjes and these distinctive hills make for interesting walking terrain. Migration Camp is in central Northern Serengeti in a quiet, less visited, part of the Serengeti. It is in an ideal location to enjoy the Serengeti’s wildlife, while also having easy access to the Mara River during the northern migration season.

At both camps, guests venture out at dawn with their guide to explore the savannah on foot, learning about wildlife by tracking and tracing their footprints, markings, and other important details. Guides will share in-depth details on animals and help guests learn more about how they interact with their habitat and one another. Walks last about two hours and participants must be 16 or older. They can take place early in the morning or late afternoon, when conditions are at their best, and usually end with a bush breakfast or sundowners in the wild.

Pioneer Camp is best accessed via Seronera airstrip which is a 1hr flight from Arusha airport, and a 50 minute drive from camp. Migration Camp is accessed via Lobo Airstrip which is a 1hr flight from Arusha Airport, and a 40min drive from the lodge.
