Calling all purists! This course is for you, because it’s about reconnecting with wilderness as you traverse some of the most beautiful and remote wild areas of southern Africa on foot. You’ll sleep wild under the stars, track and stalk game, all while travelling light and with minimal supplies. It’s less about the distance covered and more about the depth of experience en route, as you learn to make a fire, find your own water and read the stars – while leaving only footprints behind you.
This unique experience takes place in Makuleke Contractual Park, in the remote north of Kruger National Park between the perennial Limpopo and Luvuvhu rivers. This area, which is owned by the Makuleke people, and managed as part of the park, contains a staggering 75% of Kruger's total biodiversity. Also known as the Pafuri Triangle, it's one of the best walking areas in Southern Africa, and an internationally renowned birding hotspot.
Participants should come equipped with all the kit necessary for survival in the wild including, sleeping bag, camping stove and trail food. A full list will be supplied.
Meet at Pafuri Gate (KNP) at 13H00. Vehicles will be left at the student car park, and the following five nights will be spent at various locations in the Makuleke, sleeping out at leave-no-trace camps.
This is not a formal course - lessons taught on this course will not be found in any book, but learning will be ‘hands on’.
